SPG Telecon Notes for March 16, 2005 2pm ET

Attendees:

Rich Ullman, Yonsook Enloe, Jingli Yang, Ming-Hsiang Tsou, Helen Conover, Siri Jodha S. Khalsa, John Evans, Glenn Cunningham, Ron Kwok, Gi Kong Kim, Chris Helm, Allan Doyle, Ananth Rao

Next SPG ALL telecon : Wed April 13, 2005 at 2pm ET

New Action Items:

  • April 1 – Sam will submit WMS 1.3 to the Standards Process
  • April 12 – Rich & Ming will send a recommendation to Kathy Fontaine that RFC-003 be accepted as a Technical Note
  • April 1 – Allan – should check the RFC-004 for references to urls and make sure that no key information is referenced by urls.

Decisions:

  • RFC 003 (Instruction to Authors) is approved as a Technical Note.
  • SPG telecons will be scheduled on the 2nd Wednesday of each month at 2pm ET. (This is a change from the previous schedule of the 3rd Wed of each month.)
  • SPG will meet on Thursday June 16 at the ESIP Federation meeting. SPG will not meet on Friday June 17 regardless of what other ESDSWG groups do.

Notes/Discussion:

  • Rich gave status of the DAP 2 review – positive comments received for the Operational Review. However, many of the comments were very general. Therefore, TWG members will contact reviewers personally and individually to get more detailed review comments. We will defer final consideration of the DAP2 until next month.
  • Issue discussion – ECHO Technical Note submission has references to urls to websites that contain DTDs. However, the RFC-003 discourages the use of urls since websites can be reorganized and the url link broken. Sam suggested a work around compromise – use urls during the review phase. However, the final copy of the Technical Note should not contain the url but contain a copy of what the url referenced. Does RFC-004 contain urls? The RFC Editor should check and make sure that the urls reference only links to implementations.
  • Kathy Fontaine joined the telecon to give an overview on the GEOSS. The IWGEO site is http://iwgeo.ssc.nasa.gov. Rich had sent her presentation to the spg email list before this telecon.
  • GeoTIFF – Chris Helm talked with Frank about the submission. Frank doesn’t have a lot of time to prepare the submission. So Chris and Siri Jodha sent email to the GeoTIFF email list asking for collaborative help to get the GeoTIFF submission together for the Standards Process Group. They are not sure which version of GeoTIFF to submit so they are discussing this on the GeoTIFF email list. But this is moving forward.
  • Other telecon topics postponed to the April telecon since we ran out of time.
