Decisions:

  • SPG recommended that the RFC-004, DAP 2 spec, going forward to the next review phase. There were no contrary opinions.
  • We will have a one day SPG meeting on Thurs June 16 at the ESIP Federation meeting in San Diego. The ESIP Federation meeting is on June 14-16.

Notes/Discussion:

  • Recap of Jan ESIP Federation meeting in DC was discussed by people who attended. This had 4 technical tracks. The inventory discovery track and the Data Access Protocol track had good discussions and ideas for potential future candidate standards such as the ECHO client APIs, THREDDS, and the OGC WMS and WFS protocols. The ESIP Federation is planning a Jan technical tracks meeting in DC next year. Should be an annual event.
  • The summer ESIP Federation meeting is June 14-16 in San Diego. Should SPG have a one day meeting there? Gi-Kong, Glenn/Ron, Keith all plan to come. Larry S. had expressed interest in an earlier discussion. We will plan to have an SPG meeting on the Thursday June 16 at the ESIP Federation meeting. Rich will also give a presentation about the SPG activities at the Federation meeting.
  • DAP 2 recommendation– discussed whether the SPG should formally recommend that the RFC-004 should move to the next stage of review. Since most reviewers comments were positive, all agreed that the RFC-004 should be moved to the next stage of review, the Operational Review. Rich discussed the draft recommendation to move it forward. He wrote the draft using SWOT as an outline and sent to the email list earlier. Please review and comment to Rich.
  • DAP 2 status update – DAP 2 spec has been updated to correct the errors found by 4 reviewers in the Implementation Review. The 4 reviewers have reviewed the corrected spec and found a few more minor editorial errors. These errors have been corrected and a new spec version released by James Gallagher, the spec author. This revised spec is ready for the next review, the Operational Review.
  • Jingli reviewed the Operational Review guidelines. Please send her any comments by Jan 21.
  • List of potential candidate standards & technical notes:
    • Netcdf4 to hdf5
    • WMS, WFS
    • GeoTIFF
    • Global precipitation community level 2 product science content
    • Vegetation classification?
    • ECHO search API (client API)
    • Surface reflectance parameter
  • Who should we talk to about future candidate standards? Yonsook and Rich have talked with several people at EDC (Michelle Anthony, Collin Homer, Layth Grangaard, Jeff Eidenshink) and Robert Wolfe and Nazmi at GSFC. Please send yonsook names and contact info for any area specialists that the SPG should talk to about future candidate standards.
