SPG Telecon Notes for May 18, 2004 2pm ET telecon
Attendees:
Rich Ullman, Yonsook Enloe, Jingli Yang, Ming-Hsiang Tsou, Chris Lenhardt, Larry Sugarbaker, Helen Conover, Siri Jodha S. Khalsa, John Evans, Allan Doyle, Ron Kwok, Glenn Cunningham, Sam Bacharach, Gi Kong Kim, Silvia Nittel
Next SPG ALL telecon : Wed June 16 at 2pm ET
Action Items:
- May 21st – Ananth Rao to check if Nancy Casey is on the SPG email list and if not, add her
- May 21st -- Sam Bacharach will pull together a page of urls that need to be put on one web page and send that to Rich Ullman. Then the RFC003 will have a reference to that one url. We don’t want to put all the urls in the RFC003 itself to avoid future maintenance problems.
- May 21st – Larry Sugarbaker will contact Denny and ask him to respond to emails about the FGDC Vegetation Index standard. Have not heard from Denny since the telecon about science content standard where he took on an action item.
- May 21st – Allan Doyle will revise the current Word and HTML RFC templates and put that on the spg website.
- May 28th – ALL – please review the draft agenda for the two day ESDWG meetings on Oct 18-19 and send comments to Rich.
- May 31st – or as early as possible – Sam to release early version of RFC003 so that the DAP group can reference it.
- May 31st – Rich Ullman to contact Dave Jones (Federation president) and Carol Meyer (Foundation) to try to get time during the plenary agenda to talk about SPG and to solicit potential standards from the Federation community.
- June 1st – Siri Jodha will investigate potential candidates who can give the SPG members a tutorial about ISO 19101 and give the names to Rich Ullman
- June 1st – Larry Sugarbaker will call Ivan D. of FGDC to see if he is available as a potential speaker for the Oct 18-19 ESDWG meetings. However, the ESDWG Planning Committee will make the final determination on who to invite as speakers.
- June 1st – ALL – (optional) – fill out Reuse Teams’s online questionnaire. Rich will forward the access info to the SPG email list.
Decisions:
- All references to urls in each RFC will be put on one webpage. The RFC will reference only that webpage. Then when urls change, the contents of the web page will need to be revised, not the RFC itself.
- Gi Kong Kim will be the SPG point of contact for the future precipitation standards
Notes/Discussion:
- Ming gave a recap of the ESDWG Planning meeting. The chairs and co-chairs of all 4 working groups meet with Kathy and exchange information once a month, the first Tuesday of each month.
- Reuse team – planning an online questionnaire. Unfortunately they can’t send the notice to anyone without a .gov email address.
- Metrics team – developing a web based metrics tools – for evaluation and for submitting reports
- Tech Infusion – no show
- SPG reported that we are done with RFC001 & RFC002 and have submitted those to HQ for final approval. Noted that SPG needs more members. Kathy Fontaine is working on that. Liaisons between working groups were identified (ad-hoc). Nancy Casey is the liaison between the Reuse team and SPG.
- Ron Kwok gave status of the TWG RFC-001 (Charter ) that he is chairing – work is basically done. There is no change of status. Waiting to get approval from HQ (or lack of disapproval).
- Siri Jodha gave status of the TWG RFC-002 (Process) that he is chairing. Work is basically done. There is no change of status. Waiting to get “approval” from HQ (or lack of disapproval).
- Sam Bacharach gave status of the TWG RFC-003 (Inst to Authors) -
- Received several comments that he is responding to.
- Need to have the RFC003 in good enough form that we can give it to James Gallagher who is writing the DAP 2.0 specification by end of May.
- Need RFC template for future RFC submitters. Allan will revise the current version and put that on the spg website.
- Rich Ullman discussed the Oct 18-19 ESDWG meeting in College Park. Please review draft agenda for meeting and send comments to him. He asked for ideas for potential speakers for the meeting.
- Who will attend the Federation meeting in August in Asheville? Please send Rich a note if you are planning to attend. Rich is trying to get a spot on the Federation agenda to talk about the SPG and solicit ideas for potential candidate standards from the Federation community.
