- June 17 – yonsook to ask Stefan Falke about potential Atmospheric Chemistry standards that SPG should pay attention to
Notes/Discussion:
- July 7 SPG meeting in Santa Barbara –
- Allan reported that the web services workshop program is pretty much planned. We have enough speakers and topics for a panel discussion. The speakers and discussion topics are listed in the ESIP Federation wiki.
- Many SPG members have made reservations to stay at the Upham hotel for the meeting.
- Helen is looking into music night options. More info next month.
- RFC Status
- 3 tech notes from Chris Lynnes – Ananth reported that the request for review has been sent to the spg-announce email list by Rich. Not many responses yet. The TWG will need to contact potential expert reviewers personally to get some reviews. Not as many needed for a Tech Note as for a standard.
- DAP2 to HDF5 Mapping Tech Note – Kent Yang is revising the document in response to the initial review comments. Allan reported that the TWG needs to finish up the review questions. Then the TWG will send the review request to a targeted list of people – maybe the same people that reviewed the DAP2 RFC and the HDF5 RFC. Not appropriate for a general audience since this is a highly technical topic.
- AURA Community Guidelines Tech Note– Helen sent Rich the review package which includes the review questions and cover letter. The TWG will target a list of reviewers like the decadal survey mission teams. Also the review request should be sent to the spg-announce email list, the more general list. Rich will send out the request for review.
- ICARTT RFC came in. This is a format standard for airborne data. Daniel, Allan, and Ed will do the initial reviews of the RFC. Need to get the initial review comments back by May 29th.
- New RFC outreach
- Daniel reported that Russ Rew has slowed down with the CF and NetCDF4 RFCs. Russ’s new goal is Sept/Oct. Russ will be in Santa Barbara for the ESIP Federation meeting. The meeting will provide a good chance to talk to him about these RFCs.
- Rich gave the Thank You notes to Martha to send to the RFC Authors. But she has not sent them out yet. She was thinking about whether to send them out on NASA letterhead or not.
- IOOS DMAC meeting in May – Daniel attended the meeting on behalf of the SPG. The IOOS DMAC is more interested in content standards. There was a discussion at the meeting about their standards process. Currently the IOOS DMAC publishes their proposed standards in the federal registry for a public comment period. Some of their candidate standards have been stuck in that process. The IOOS DMAC want to change their standards process to not use the federal registry any more. Ann Ball is stepping down as chair at the end of Sept. Daniel will schedule a telecon with Ann and the incoming chair before the transition. NetCDF4 and GRIB have been approved as WMO standards. David Arctur (GEOSS SIF) was also at the IOOS DMAC meeting. He told Daniel that he would like the SIF and the SPG to collaborate.
- The next SPG telecon is scheduled for Wed June 17th, at 3pm ET.
