  • May 20 – Allan will check with Karl Benedict on status of the Time Enabled KML RFC

Notes/Discussion:

  • July 7 SPG meeting in Santa Barbara –
    • Need to reserve lodging soon as possible. Can stay at dorms or at a hotel. The hotel group rate is inexpensive, much under the govt per diem but there are a limited number of rooms available.
    • Allan has invited some speakers to the SPG meeting to discuss web services. He would like to invite about 6 more speakers to the SPG meeting.
    • Helen has sent Frew an email, asking about local music venues.
  • RFC Status
    • 3 tech notes from Chris Lynnes – Chris has revised the docs in response to the initial review comments. The TWG has finalized the review criteria. Plan is to send the review request to the entire spg-announce email list
    • AURA Guidelines – Helen noted that the TWG will telecon on 4/16. The new and improved document is ready to send out for review. The TWG will formulate the review criteria
    • DAP2 to HDF5 Mapping Tech Note – Allan says that he, Daniel, and Helen are doing an initial review of the tech note. Siri Jodha will also be on the TWG for this.
  • New RFC outreach
    • Gao Chen said that they have a rough draft of the ICARTT almost completed. Should complete the rough draft in a few weeks.
    • The CF and NetCDF4 standards should be input as community standards RFC in the next month or two. Daniel will check with them before the next SPG telecon
    • Time Enabled KML/WMS – Allan will check with Karl Benedict
  • Daniel reported (via email) that he had a telecon with Anne Ball of the IOOS DMAC. She asked for a copy of the "Instruction to Authors" RFC and the RFC template. She is distributing these documents to the IOOS Steering Team. The IOOS DMAC is having a meeting in the DC area in May. Rich is invited to give a presentation on the SPG.
  • Helen reported that the DMAC Metadata team is reviewing a content standard for buoy data.
  • Rich gave an update on the discussions at the monthly ESDSWG telecon. Frank focused the telecon on future budgets. Discussed the new decadal missions and how the ESDSWG could work with them. Frank is looking forward to an opportunity to have a joint meeting with the ESDWG and the decadal survey missions. At the Oct ESDSWG meeting, should the decadal missions be invited? The decadal missions also have periodic meetings themselves and we will see if we can get invited to those meetings. Rich noted that Martha has asked for increased involvement by the SPG in the interactions with external organizations like CEOS and GEOSS but Rich has not received additional funding to be involved in this work. One future direction is to explicitly itemize the different SPG activities within the future budgets. Then we may get funding for the activities.
  • Siri Jodha gave an update on the GEOSS SIF activities. The guidelines for the regional SIF teams have been reviewed. Review comments received from China, Europe, and North America. Still working on the mechanics of how to review the standards in the SIF registry. At the Nov GEO Plenary meeting in DC, Siri Jodha would like to schedule the first face to face meeting of the leads of the regional SIF teams.
  • The next telecon is scheduled for Wed May 20, at 3pm ET.
